SNR Automotive Wheel Bearing Range

Quite recently, some manufacturers have adopted a particular design for the rear axle of vehicles equipped with disc brakes :

BRAKE KITS - The non-removable wheel hub

With this configuration, the hub-disc shoulder is designed so as to mask the bearings outer ring. It is therefore impossible to push on the hub to safely extract the bearing from its housing. If bearing removal is attempted the bearing will be damaged.

The bearing cannot be re-assembled and used again. The housing can also be damaged by removal of the bearing. The rollers will cause the outer race to be forced against the housing and so induce distorsion.

SNR Aftermarket proposes a BRAKE KIT for this new design :

The Hub-disc unit is delivered pre-assembled, including the ASB sensor.

WHEEL BEARINGS & WHEEL KITS
One of the most comprehensive ranges on the market :

More than 1000 part numbers, with genuine parts for 98 % of the European vehicle part. The wheel bearing is assembled between the stub and the hub. It role is to allow wheelrotation (driven or non driven), according to chassis frame of the car and supporting the charges applied on the wheel. The type of bearings is different according to the application and supported load.

Types of wheel bearings :

The letter B ( for balls, "Billes" in French ) allow you to identify ball bearings and the letter C ( for rollers, "Cônes" in French ) allow you to recognize roller bearings. The prefix X is for an ASB bearing.

Wheel bearings evolution :

Originally, wheel assemblies used standardized bearings with only one row of balls or taper rollers, assembled as pairs (generation 0). Starting with generation 1 and up to 3, wheel bearings began to fulfil several other functions.

Recommendations for Wheel bearing fitting / removal :
A bearing is an element of precision and safety, before install it, it necessary to take in account some precautions.

ASB (Active Sensor Bearing)
Allows the active measure of wheel rotation speed

The wheel bearing is equipped with a seal integrating a magnetic ring, which has north and south poles. The adjacent active sensor delivers digital signals ( even at zero speed) and information about the wheel is pased on to the logic controllers present in the vehicle : ABS, EPS, HDC, GPS, etc..

SNR recommends using the SNR ASB tester card when fitting bearings with ASB technology in order to avoid errors when fitting.
